Experts warn that taking medications incorrectly causes health complications

Disregard for medication is becoming a public health problem. Many patients decide not to take their medications or take them incorrectly, and this has an obvious impact on the management of diseases such as hypertension or diabetes.

These are worrying data that reveal the level of health literacy in Portugal. According to a new study, almost 90% of chronic patients take daily medications and, of these, practically half admit not taking them properly, either because they forget or because they feel better.

At the conference “Adherence to Therapy: From shared responsibility to impact on public health”experts leave warnings. Failure to comply with therapy in cases of chronic illness, such as hypertension your diabetesmay have consequences on patients’ lives.
