Russia distances itself from intelligence sharing with Iran. At the same time, Lavrov acknowledges the delivery of military equipment

The Russian government denies that it is supplying Iran with intelligence for attacks against the US. However, Lavrov admits military assistance to Tehran and insists on their partnership.

The Russian government has denied accusations that it is providing intelligence to Iran to counter US military targets in the Middle East. “We have supplied Iran with some military equipment, but we cannot agree to the accusation that we are helping Iran with intelligence,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with France Télévisions. TASR informs about it based on the reports of the DPA and TASS agencies.

  • The Russian government denies providing intelligence to Iran against US targets.
  • Sergey Lavrov acknowledges the supply of Russian military equipment to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
  • The coordinates of American military bases are described by Lavrov as publicly available and known.

The head of Russian diplomacy said that the coordinates of US military bases in the area are known and publicly available, so the intelligence services do not need to publish them. “I am not surprised that Iran is attacking them,” he added. At the same time, he confirmed that Moscow and Tehran remain strategic partners.

Strategic partnership

Lavrov emphasized that Iran’s attacks on targets in the Arab countries of the region are the result of a military operation by the United States and Israel, which is in violation of international law. At the same time, however, he rejected any parallels with the war in Ukraine.

The Russian foreign minister said that the key to settling the conflict in the Middle East is to stop the aggression of the US and Israel against Iran.

Criticism of American aggression

In an interview for French television, he also pointed out that US aggression raises questions about American negotiators. In this context, he recalled that it was the second time that aggression against Iran began in the middle of negotiations. “Everyone is talking about it. This cannot but raise questions about the American negotiators who ‘led’ this political-diplomatic process,” TASS quoted Lavrov as saying.
