Israel detects missile from Yemen after Houthis threaten to enter war

The Israeli Army said it had identified a missile launch from Yemen for the first time since the start of the war. The launch comes hours after the Houthis – a rebel group backed by Iran – said they were ready to intervene in the conflict.

In a televised speech, military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the Houthis were ready to intervene militarily if other countries joined the United States and Israel in their war against Iran, or if the Red Sea was used to launch attacks against the Islamic Republic.

The group’s entry into the war raises prospects for a broader regional confrontation, especially given the group’s ability to strike targets far beyond Yemen and to disrupt shipping lanes around the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea, such as .

Iran’s Shiite allies in Lebanon and Iraq have already joined the conflict in the region, sparked by attacks by the United States and Israel on Tehran four weeks ago.
