We usually talk about the speed of cars or computers. But what about plant growth rates? Sometimes that comes in handy too. Would you know which plants are among the fastest growing types of greenery that you too can grow?
Plants in Czech gardens are also fast growing
Did you buy a new garden, or did you just make a radical cut on the existing one and now you are looking sadly at the empty beds? It takes the patience of a saint to wait years for seedlings to grow into mature plants that give you shade or privacy.
Did you know that we also have sprinters who can literally conjure up a green jungle in a few months? Among these plants, which do not waste time growing, you will find shrubs, annuals and perennials, climbers, but also types of greenery that are suitable for hedges.
Our next post will also introduce you to natural hedges.
Speed as an advantage and a small catch
Before you start betting, it’s good to know what you’re getting into. Fast growing plants are great because:
- Immediate effect: The garden looks inhabited almost immediately.
- Privacy: A hedge or a screen will grow before the neighbor has time to see what you are new to.
- Weed Suppression: They quickly cover the ground and don’t give weeds a chance.
- But it also has its advantages “but”. Fast growing usually requires more work with the shears. If you don’t tame them, they can creep up on you even where you don’t want them, and the fastest species tend to have a slightly shorter lifespan than their slower relatives.
In order for plants to really grow like a plant, they need “fuel”. Don’t forget to regular wateringespecially in the first year is very important. Give them a fair dose in the spring compost. Fast growth depletes the soil much more than slow growth.
The fastest growing green you can have
Sunflower (Helianthus annuus)
The absolute king of speed. If you plant it from seed, in a few months you have a plant as tall as an adult. In addition, bees and, in autumn, birds will also be delighted.
It is an annual that you will have to sow every year. however, it is undemanding and does not require more than ordinary care and, in higher species, sometimes support.
Tropaeolum (Tropaeolum)
This vintage is stretching at an incredible pace. It will cover an unsightly wall or an empty spot in a flower bed in no time. And the bonus? Its flowers and leaves are edible and taste slightly hot like watercress. Do not delay sowing.
