Among the available areas are Delicatessen, Fish Shop, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables and Ready to Eat.

The opening in Sintra comes after Mercadona had already opened stores in Quinta do Lambert, Lisbon, Viseu and Covilhã this year.

The Covilhã store marked the brand’s arrival in the Castelo Branco district.

More openings planned

By the end of the year, the Spanish network plans to reach more districts in Portugal.

Openings are planned in Vila Real, Beja and Faro, including stores in Portimão and Faro.

Mercadona is also preparing new stores in Amarante, Esposende, Maia and Moita.

Prices dropped on 500 products

In addition to expanding the store network, Mercadona also announced price reductions in around 500 references in Portugal since the beginning of the year.

According to the company, more than 200 of these descents occurred in April.

The measure covers products such as yogurt, pasta, bread and hygiene items, with a special focus on daily consumption goods.

Company talks about internal efficiency

Mercadona explains that this price reduction is the result of continuous work to optimize internal processes.

The objective, according to the chain, is to absorb part of the increase in raw material costs and reduce the impact on customers.

In stores, consumers can identify lower-priced products using yellow labels.

Chain reinforces presence in Portugal

With the opening in Sintra, Mercadona continues to consolidate its presence in the Portuguese market.

The company continues to focus on territorial expansion, creating local jobs and strengthening supply in several districts.

The new Sintra store thus becomes part of the brand’s national network, in a year in which the Spanish chain expects to continue growing in Portugal.
