Voter deception? Orbán fan and painter Péter Magyar takes on Péter Magyar’s anti-Orbán party


Around two weeks before the Hungarian parliamentary elections on April 12th, Péter Magyar is still leading in the polls. The 45-year-old, who instilled fear in the long-term ruler Viktor Orbán in the election campaign with a patriotic and Christian campaign, but in a decidedly pro-European and anti-Russian manner, still has a good chance of defeating Orbán, who has been in power again since 2010. In the Hungarian electoral system, in which 106 mandates from regional constituencies and 93 mandates are calculated proportionally from the nationwide result, each individual regional mandate can decide.
