With more than 1 million trees, coffee production advances in Acre

Coffee went from being a promise to becoming one of the main bets in the countryside in Porto Acre. With more than 1 million planted trees, the crop is growing at an accelerated pace and is beginning to transform the reality of producers, especially after the arrival of a mini-industry that already directly impacts around 40 families.

Through a parliamentary amendment by former federal deputy and current director of the Brazilian Agency for Industrial Development (), Perpétua Almeida, the municipality now has a mini-coffee processing industry that promises to transform the local economy.

In recent years, the advancement of coffee farming has been visible on rural properties in the municipality, with expanded areas and increasingly significant harvests. For those who make a living from production, the current scenario represents an important turning point.

“We’ve been investing in coffee for seven years and production has only increased. Until last year, we had to take everything to dry in Acrelândia, and the cost of this transportation ended up taking away the producer’s profit”, highlighted the association’s president, Abílio Caetano.

The main change came with the implementation of a mini-processing industry in the municipality itself, eliminating the need for travel and allowing the entire process to be carried out locally.

“With this mini-industry, what was spent on the road now stays in the families’ pockets. It’s a tremendous gain that ensures that the results of our sweat remain here”, he added.

The new structure not only reduces costs and speeds up processing, but also strengthens the autonomy of producers, who now have more control over their own production.
