According to the Military Police, both were rescued and are in serious condition.
An off-duty police officer exchanged gunfire with a suspect during an attempted robbery on Rua Sapetubain Butantã, west of São Paulo. The crime occurred on Saturday afternoon (28) at around 3pm.
According to the Military Police, during the exchange of gunfire, two people were hit: the suspect and the victim of the robbery. Both were rescued and are in serious condition.
The PM was called and remains at the scene to preserve the crime scene. The incident will be presented at the 34th Police District (Vila Sônia).
Architect’s death
In April last year, architect Jefferson Dias was killed on Rua Desembargador Armando Fairbanks close to Rua Sapetubaalso in Butantã. He tried to stop the criminal from escaping with a ring and a cell phone that he had just stolen from a pedestrian.
To do so, the architect threw his car at the assailant, who was on a motorbike. The thief then crashed the vehicle into the street. Images from security cameras at the scene showed the moment he got up, pulled out the gun and shot the driver of the car. Jefferson was hit by three fatal shots.
Jefferson’s friend who was in the passenger seat managed to run. The criminal dropped the motorcycle, which, according to the police, was stolen, and fled on foot.
The woman victim of the robbery was not injured. An ambulance rescued the architect and took him to the USP University Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. Jefferson was 43 years old.
The man named as the gunman, aged 20, was arrested after turning himself in to the police. According to the investigation, he already had two police convictions for robbery.
