Despite the support of the membership base of SNS si Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment of the Slovak Republic Tomáš Taraba (SNS nominee) thinks that the leadership of the nationalists will not approve his membership in the SNS. He expressed his opinion in the discussion program of TA3 television in politics.
- Tomáš Taraba does not expect his membership in the SNS to be approved by the party leadership.
- Taraba declares loyalty to the SNS and excludes negotiations with other parties.
- The SaS candidate for the next parliamentary elections will not include the name of Richard Sulík.
- Taraba calls the Democrats’ referendum a fraud on the signatories of the referendum petition.
- Both Taraba and Gröhling support the reduction of the number of ministries and criticize their current distribution.
“I have submitted the application in the standard way, I do not claim any exemptions, now I am waiting for their decision,” said Taraba. He emphasized that he feels the support of the membership, but the attitude of SNS chairman Andrej Danka indicates to him that he will not become a member of SNS. “I don’t want to analyze it, but the statements he gives indicate to me that I will not be accepted into the SNS,” said Taraba, who believes that the final decision will be made by the narrow leadership of the SNS. He emphasized that he is extremely loyal to the SNS as a party nominee. At the same time, he rejected speculations about a possible connection with other parties. “I don’t negotiate with anyone,” he emphasized.
The president of SaS, Branislav Gröhling, once again commented on the decision that the former leader of the liberals, Richard Sulík, will not be on the candidate list for the next parliamentary elections. He pointed out that this direction was confirmed by the overwhelming majority of the delegates of the other SaS congress. Likewise, according to him, current preferences indicate that voters agree with the current trend.
They briefly commented on the issue of the referendum, which was initiated with a petition by the non-parliamentary party Democrats. Both pointed out that on the issue of the possibility of announcing a referendum on shortening the electoral period, there is a decision of the Constitutional Court, which already said no on this topic. Taraba therefore thinks that the Democrats have cheated those who signed the petition to declare the referendum. “They had them sign something that I assume they knew was bound to fail,” stated. Regarding the possible support of the referendum, Gröhling wants to wait for the president’s decision on the issue. “Then within the opposition, where we communicate, we will sit down and set steps,” he said.
The possible reconstruction of the government was also a topic. Taraba stated that he had not heard anything concrete in this regard. “There was something in the air a while ago, but as far as I know, there is no reconstruction going on,” he said. Gröhling thinks that some ministers would like to leave themselves. “For example, the Minister of Finance Ladislav Kamenický (Smer-SD), there is a lot of talk about that he should go to the NBS, Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) would like to go to the Constitutional Court“, he noted. Both also agreed that the number of ministries should be reduced.
