The number of European patent applications actually increased above average last year. For the first time in 2025, the European Patent Office (EPO) recorded more than 200,000 patent applications. According to the EPO, companies and inventors from Austria contributed to this with a total of 2,253 European patent applications. This corresponds to an increase of five percent compared to the previous year. This means that Austria is well above the EU and global average.
