STF investigates whether former president violated house arrest measures after his son claimed that his father watched the broadcast
Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Monday (30) that the defense of former president Jair Bolsonaro explain, within 24 hours, about a possible violation of the rules of his house arrest. The decision comes after the release of a video recorded by his son, deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), during an event in the United States.
On the 24th, Moraes authorized house arrest for Bolsonaro, for a period of 90 days. The former president is recovering from bronchopneumonia. To maintain this measure, precautionary measures were imposed, including:
- Prohibition of using cell phones, telephones or any other means of communication, including through third parties;
- Prohibition of using social networks, directly or through other people;
- Prohibition of recording videos or audio, also extended to intermediaries.
The request for explanations was motivated by a post made on the social network X on Saturday (28). In the video, recorded during the “Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)” in the USA, Eduardo appears holding a cell phone and claims that he is “showing” the event to his father. In the recording, the deputy says:
“Do you know why I’m making this video? Because I’m showing it to my father and I’m going to prove to everyone in Brazil that you can’t silence a movement unfairly, taking away its leader, Jair Messias Bolsonaro. Thank you very much.”
