The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, (), criticized this Monday (30) the , who decided to announce the governor of Goiás, (PSD), to enter the dispute for Planalto.
Leite also wanted the position and said that the definition of Caiado’s name “tends to maintain this environment of radicalized polarization that limits our country so much.”
“Although this decision disappoints me, as well as many other Brazilians due to the way they insist on doing politics in this country, I will not discuss this decision. But this does not mean a lack of conviction”, he said in a video in which he states that Brazil “is tired of a dispute that imprisons the debate between the extremes”.
The governor of Paraná, praised Caiado. According to the man from Paraná, the governor of Goiás is a “man approved as a manager, with nationally recognized work, especially in vital areas such as education and security”.
“Your enthusiasm for serving is a source of inspiration for all those who believe in a modern Brazil, which offers opportunities to young people and recognizes the strength of the private sector as a source of growth”, continued Ratinho Junior, in a note published on his social networks.
Among the three PSDB presidential candidates, Ratinho Junior was the one who had the preference of the party’s national president, . But , before being announced as the PSD’s chosen one.
As soon as Ratinho Junior announced his withdrawal, Caiado emerged as the likely name of the PSD, but Leite intensified his agenda and even tried to qualify for the dispute, reinforcing that he would be better able to break the polarization than his supporters.
Unlike Leite, Caiado and Ratinho Junior allied themselves with Bolsonarism in the last term and were convicted of an attempted coup d’état and are now under house arrest.
“Over the last few days, what I experienced was something that left a deep impression on me. I received expressions of support from political leaders, from economists who helped build important moments in Brazil, from people in civil society, from ordinary citizens. And all these voices pointed in the same direction: there is in Brazil a strong desire, perhaps still silent, but very real, for more balance, for more common sense, for more respect”, said Leite.
“A desire for a politics that doesn’t need to shout to be heard, that doesn’t need to divide to exist, that doesn’t treat anyone who thinks differently as an enemy”, continued the governor of Rio Grande do Sul. In an emotional tone, Leite also said that “it doesn’t end here” and that “politics is dynamic”.
“Journeys like this do not end with a party decision. This journey continues in society, in ideas, in what we plant. If not now, it will be soon. But Brazil will find its way back to balance”, said Leite.
Ratinho Junior said that Brazilians will have “another option to turn the page on a less unequal, modern country without bureaucratic constraints.”
On the same note, Ratinho Junior also praised his party colleague who was overlooked in the internal dispute. According to him, Leite “repositioned Rio Grande do Sul on the national scene after balancing the state’s accounts.” “To the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, my recognition of your greatness and your public spirit”, he wrote.
With a better performance in polls of voting intentions among the PSD presidential candidates, Ratinho Junior claimed that he withdrew due to family influence and also because he intends to focus on creating a successor in Paraná.
Especially after the senator’s affiliation with the PL, the PSD of Paraná has found it difficult to present a competitive name in the race for the Iguaçu Palace. Pre-candidate for governor, Moro has been leading voting intention polls.
