Proceeds should be invested in financing public policies aimed at sustainability and mitigating the impacts resulting from the seasonal increase in population
The city hall of Ilhabela, on the north coast of São Paulo, starts charging the Environmental Preservation Tax (TPA) for tourists from this Tuesday (31). Operational tests have been carried out since March 20thand, last Tuesday, the 24th, there was technical training with professionals directly involved in the operation.
What changes?
From now on, all vehicles entering the city must pay a fixed amount, depending on the type of car.
- Motorcycles: R$ 10
- Passenger vehicles, utility vehicles and kombis: R$48
- Vans: R$ 70
- Trucks: R$70
- Minibus: R$ 100
- Bus: R$ 140
“TPA aims to support permanent conservation actionsmaintenance and preservation of Ilhabela’s natural heritage”, informed Ilhabela City Hall. The charge has existed since 2007, but was suspended in 2020, during the pandemic, and has now been resumed at the suggestion of the mayor.
The measure contributes as environmental compensation. The proceeds should be invested in financing public policies aimed at sustainability and in mitigating the impacts resulting from the seasonal increase in population.
“The amount will be invested in garbage transfer, sweeping, waste disposal and drainage works. All of this related to the environment. “Also in environmental educational actions”, stated Mayor Toninho Colucci (PL).
To inspect the vehicles, an electronic system must control the entry. “Of course, we have supervision over the company that will present the numbers, will present the amount that will be collected and this resource will go to the municipality’s budget”, says Toninho.
In this way, the Visitors to the archipelago can make payments using automatic vehicle identification systems“electronic tags”, via Pix or bank slip, available for issuance online.
Also according to the city hall, vehicles registered in Ilhabela and São Sebastião, with automatic recognition, without the need for prior registration, are exempt from the charge, as well as official vehicles from public bodies. To monitor TPA’s investments, the Accounting will be carried out quarterlywith detailed reports being sent to the City Council.
