New ranking reveals which national parks are having global success: find out which ones are closest

The demand for experiences in natural environments has skyrocketed again and some national parks stand out for their popularity among visitors. Among UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Plitvice Lakes National Park, in Croatia, leads the 2026 ranking in number of online reviews, reflecting the fascination it exerts on those who visit it.

Croatia dethrones American giants

According to the specialized travel website, , the Croatian park has accumulated more than 124 thousand opinions on Google, with an average rating of 4.8 out of 5. The set of 16 lakes interconnected by waterfalls, crossed by wooden walkways, provides a scene of rare beauty, where walking on crystal clear waters becomes a unique experience.

According to the same source, Plitvice Lakes National Park dethrones American giants in popularity, reinforcing the growing attention on European destinations.

The second and third places in the ranking are linked to the same natural phenomenon: the Iguaçu Falls, divided between Argentina and Brazil. The Iguazú National Park, on the Argentine side, has 106,934 reviews, while the Iguaçu National Park, in Brazil, has 69,843 reviews.

With around 275 waterfalls spread across the subtropical jungle, this group was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and continues to be one of the most impressive natural destinations on the planet.

United States is present

The United States has four parks in the top 10. The Grand Canyon occupies fourth position, with more than 63 thousand reviews, and continues to surprise with the scale and depth of its gorges carved by the Colorado River. Yosemite comes in fifth place with 54,771 opinions, highlighted by the granite walls of El Capitan and Half Dome and the giant sequoias.

The Great Smoky Mountains rank sixth, with more than 50,000 reviews, and boast biodiversity that rivals that of the entire European continent, offering 1,300 kilometers of trails for hikers of all levels. Yellowstone closes the American participation in eighth place, famous for its geysers, including the iconic Old Faithful, which attracts crowds to watch the jet of boiling water reach dozens of meters.

European diversity

Europe maintains three representations. Cinque Terre National Park, in Italy, ranks seventh with 46,691 reviews, combining colorful villages and coastal landscapes that transform each trail into a postcard. The Lake District in England comes in ninth, with the rolling hills and serene lakes that marked romantic poets like William Wordsworth.

In tenth place comes the Teide National Park, in the Canary Islands, with 39,319 opinions, dominated by the volcano that is the highest point in Spain and by lava formations that create an almost lunar landscape, partly accessible by cable car.

Nature tourism on the rise

According to the same source, all parks in the top 10 maintain ratings between 4.7 and 4.9, showing consistency in the quality of the experience offered. The analysis was based exclusively on the number of reviews collected in March 2026, which favors destinations with a high flow of visitors and audiences prone to sharing opinions online.

The trend for nature tourism is clear: outdoor activities continue to grow in popularity, driven by digital disconnection, environmental interest, landscape photography and the search for authentic experiences.

Essential planning and preparation

Visiting these parks requires planning. Many require advance reservations, daily quotas, and appropriate equipment, from sturdy footwear to layers of clothing adaptable to weather conditions.
