The company installed a digital billboard in the Leblon neighborhood, in Rio, in a direct allusion to the historical symbolism of the black and white fans in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
The new model pays homage to the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Brazilian Championship semi-final, an episode that became known as the “Corinthian Invasion”. On that occasion, according to the club, 70,000 fans traveled from São Paulo to Rio to watch the match against , at Maracanã.
MARKETING STRATEGY
The choice of Rio de Janeiro as the stage for the announcement is part of the narrative of “revisit o spirit” of 1976.
“In 1976, the Corinthian Invasion took over Rio de Janeiro and proved that where the faithful tread, it’s all ours. To mark 50 years of this history, today Rio woke up like this”Nike said in a statement about the campaign.
LOGISTICS AND LAUNCH
Although the campaign is already on the streets, the uniform’s debut schedule has changed.
The initial plan was to debut the shirt on Wednesday (April 1, 2026), in a game against Fluminense at Maracanã. The launch will now be in May.
