Silveira should stay in government and withdraw from candidacy – 03/30/2026 – Panel

Amid the departure of ministers from the government’s hard core, the president asked the Minister of Mines and Energy, to give up his candidacy for Minas Gerais and stay in office. Silveira told interlocutors that he must comply with the request.

The president is worried about the government with the departures of (Treasury), Rui Costa (Civil House) and Gleisi Hoffmann (Institutional Relations).

Silveira is seen as one of Lula’s trusted names and, therefore, should assume roles considered strategic if he continues in government.

The idea is for him to act in dialogue with the market and also in political articulation, as he is a former senator and secretary of the PSDB.

As minister, he must still participate in the national coordination of Lula’s re-election campaign,

Allies of the miner say that he is willing to make the “sacrifice” and must accept Lula’s proposal.

Silveira’s stay is another message that the president gives to the PSDB. Ministers Silveira and André de Paula (Fishing) will continue in the government even with Ronaldo Caiado’s pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the PSD.
