The weather in Slovakia has gone CRAZY: up to 20 centimeters of snow fell in these areas!

It snowed in the higher elevations, especially in central and northern Slovakia, on Tuesday morning. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about it on the social network.

  • On Tuesday morning, it snowed in the higher elevations of central and northern Slovakia.
  • A frontal interface is rolling over Slovakia, bringing rain and snowfall.
  • Snow occurs temporarily from about six hundred meters above sea level.
  • Ten to thirty millimeters of rain fell in central and eastern Slovakia.
  • Twenty centimeters of snow fell in some places in the mountainous areas, the precipitation is gradually weakening.

“A frontal interface is rolling over our area and a precipitation field moving in from the southeast is bringing rain or sleet to several locations. At higher altitudes, temporarily even from approximately 600 to 700 meters above sea level, we observe snowfall“, the meteorologists said.

They claim that in the past hours in most of central and part of eastern Slovakia, significant precipitation was recorded, ranging from ten to 30 millimeters, occasionally even more on windward winds. In mountainous areas, 15 to 20 centimeters of new snow was added in some localities. In the rest of the territory, according to SHMÚ, totals did not exceed ten millimeters. “Precipitation activity should gradually stop during the day,” he added.
