Knowledge about digital banks doubles, with adoption highlighted among younger people

Brazilians’ knowledge about banks and digital wallets has grown, but has not yet reached half of the economically active population. The conclusion is from Radio X do Investidor Brasileiro, in preview of the ninth edition of the survey carried out by Anbima (Brazilian Association of Financial and Capital Market Entities), in partnership with Datafolha.

According to the survey, 45.6% of Brazilians said they knew at least one bank or digital wallet in November last year. The number was much lower in 2022: just 23.9%.

Recognition of traditional banks remains high: it went from 78% in 2022 to 91.5% in 2025. Credit unions were mentioned by 11.20% of the 5,832 respondents, while only 3.30% remembered brokers and 0.48% cryptocurrency exchanges.

The study also shows that nine out of ten Brazilians have an active account with at least one financial institution. Traditional banks lead membership, with 73.67%, and digital banks follow closely behind, with 38.87%. As the same person can have an account at more than one type of institution, the sum of the percentages can exceed 100%.

In terms of generation, it is clear that younger people lead the adoption of digital banks. Around 66% of generation Z – aged 16 to 29 in 2025 – have an account with digital institutions and 67% with traditional banks. Among millennials – aged 30 to 44 – the adoption of digital banks drops to 48%, with 77% having at least one account with traditional banks.

In more mature groups, digital loses even more momentum: in Generation X – 45 to 64 years old – 76% are in traditional homes and 24% in digital homes. Among the so-called Boomers+ – over 65 years old –, 75% have traditional accounts and only 7% in digital banks.
