Marina says her candidacy for the Senate remains open – 04/01/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The Minister (Environment) stated this Wednesday (1st) that she had received several invitations from parties to run as a candidate in this year’s elections, but said that confirmation of her candidacy is still open.

According to her, the remaining Senate seat in São Paulo, together with Simone Tebet (PSB), and Fernando Haddad, for governor, is still being defined. Marina’s name is one of the main ones mentioned to form the support ticket for the president (PT).

So far, Marina said she has received invitations from PT, PV, Psol, PSB and others. The party window period, the period for politicians to change parties, ends on Friday (4).

Speaking to journalists, she also commented on the current impasse experienced in her party, Rede. A change in the acronym’s regulations, of which Marina was part of the foundation, led the minister to go to court to have the program reestablished.

“I am seeking through legal means together with my companions to reestablish the program which, in my understanding, was changed in a way that was not democratic,” he said.

The speeches were made during the handover of the baton from the Ministry of the Environment to number 2 in the department, João Paulo Capobianco. Marina is among around 20 ministers from the Lula (PT) government who leave their positions for the elections.

Some incumbents leave their positions to run for seats in Congress in an attempt to strengthen the president’s platform in the states or directly support the PT campaign. Speaking to journalists this Wednesday, Marina stated that she is “one of the few who is leaving where the hammer has not yet been dropped. But I will be at the front of the battle with all the strength I have”, she declared.

“Why haven’t you decided yet, because they are still doing construction, for my part, it’s very calm and São Paulo. Thank God we already have Simone, thank God we already have Haddad and the second wave [ao Senado] is being discussed,” he said.

“I am very honored to be listed as one of these possibilities. I am grateful to the people of São Paulo because in the research nominations I am there, as traditional politicians say: ‘our name is in the running'”.
