Post-storms: Government reserves 15 million euros to solve problems in Mondego

Two months after the storms, the money promised by the Government still has not reached most of the victims. At the same time, the executive signed contracts with municipalities in the Mondego region to recover from the floods.

To solve the most urgent problems, 15 million euros will be availableand in addition to this amount, 14 million will be invested in the works of the dike and a channel leading to the Mondego.

The optimism of the president of the Brazilian Environment Agency (APA) during the visit to the conductor canal works resulted in a commitment.

At the beginning of May the channel will be readyin time to guarantee irrigation in the area’s agricultural fields.

In February the Mondego climbed the banks and burst one of the dikes. You investments announced in the meantime are to reduce losses from new floodsif they are repeated in the future.

For more urgent works, The municipalities of Coimbra, Soure, Figueira da Foz, Pombal and Montemor-o-Velho will receive 15 million euros.

The Minister of the Environment also signed protocols with four municipalities in the Leiria region this Wednesday. Three million euros will be made available for the recovery of water lines.
