  • An expert opinion confirmed the match of the fibers from the defendant’s car with the student’s sweater.
  • Toxicology tests confirmed the presence of ketamine in the body of the injured student Soňa.
  • In 2024, the prosecutor stopped the prosecution due to the defendant’s alleged insanity.

In the case of the kidnapping and intoxication of the student Sone, several expert reports were read on Wednesday at the Bratislava I Municipal Court. They concerned the fields of forensic chemistry, forensic toxicology, forensic anthropology and forensic informatics. The court excluded the public from reading the remaining expert opinions. The trial is scheduled to continue on May 6, according to the schedule of hearings. Ivo P. faces criminal charges of rape and restriction of personal freedom.

In a forensic chemistry report, the expert concluded that the fibers found in the defendant’s car matched the fibers from the injured student’s sweater. At the court, they also read several reports from the field of forensic toxicology, which confirmed that ketamine was present in the victim’s body at the time of the crime. Experts also dealt with the method of its application or the length of its presence in the organism.

During the expert investigation in the field of forensic informatics, the expert dealt with the data from the defendant’s mobile phone. In the case of forensic anthropology, they analyzed camera footage from the streets in the center of Bratislava. The experts came to the conclusion that most of the characteristics of the person caught on camera match the characteristics of Iva P.

The police received a report about the disappearance of the student in September 2023. She was found unconscious and intoxicated near a hospital in Bratislava’s Petržalka. The investigator of the Bratislava regional criminal office charged Ivo P. from Bratislava with the crime of rape and the crime of restricting personal freedom. The court subsequently took the accused into custody.

In April 2024, the prosecutor of the Bratislava Regional Prosecutor’s Office stopped the criminal prosecution against Ivo P. due to his alleged mental illness and resulting insanity at the time of the crime. At that time, the court issued a preliminary order for his placement in a medical facility.

In February 2025, the prosecutor of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Slovak Republic canceled the decision to stop the criminal prosecution in the case of the kidnapping and intoxication of the student Sone. He also ordered the prosecutor of the regional prosecutor’s office to act and decide on the matter again. He did so following the finding of the Constitutional Court (ÚS) of the Slovak Republic, which in January of last year found a violation of the rights of the student Sone. The ÚS accepted the victim’s complaint against the suspension of the criminal prosecution of the alleged perpetrator due to insanity. He ordered the General Prosecutor’s Office to act on the matter again. The Bratislava I Municipal Court subsequently took the accused into custody.
