The American head of state accuses his allies of disloyalty for not helping him attack Iran after the US supported Ukraine.
The President of the United States stated that he was seriously considering the country’s withdrawal from NATO following the allies’ refusal to support military intervention against Iran. Speaking to , Donald Trump states that the US stay is now “beyond reconsideration”.
“NATO never convinced me. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin also knows that, by the way”, says the head of state, who considers that the allies’ support should have been “automatic”, just as US aid to Ukraine has been. “Ukraine was not our problem. It was a test, and we were there for them, and we always would be. They weren’t there for us”, criticizes.
The United Kingdom was one of the main targets of criticism. The American president censored Prime Minister Keir Starmer for refusing to get involved in the conflict with Iran, even questioning the operational capacity of the British Navy.
“I won’t tell you what to do. He can do whatever he wants. It doesn’t matter. All Starmer wants are expensive wind turbines that are driving energy prices through the roof,” he said.
At the same time, the White House will study deep reforms in NATOincluding a model in which only countries that meet certain financial criteria can fully participate in decisions. Among the measures under analysis is also the withdrawal of US troops from Germany.
Starmer has already reacted to Trump’s criticism, stating that he will negotiate a closer relationship with the European Union at a summit that will take place later this year.
“We want to be more ambitious, with a closer economic cooperationcloser security cooperation, a partnership that recognizes our shared values, interests and future”, he said at a Downing Street press conference.
Asked by a reporter whether rapprochement with the EU would be a recognition that the relationship with the US is changing, Starmer defended the importance of NATO. “Firstly, the NATO is the most effective military alliance the world has ever seen. And she kept us safe for many decades. And we are fully committed to NATO”, he concluded.
War should last another two weeks
Criticism of NATO comes after Trump stated this Tuesday that the US has already fulfilled the main objectives of the operation in Iran and is now “finishing the work”.
“I think that in about two weeks“Maybe in a few more days, we will be able to complete the work,” he said, stressing that the operation will end with or without an agreement with Iran and that “it doesn’t matter if they sit at the negotiating table or not.”
“We set them back by 15 to 20 years. They have no navy, no army, no air force. It’s irrelevant now, it’s possible that we will reach a deal because they want to reach a deal,” Trump added.
