The final countdown to her space mission has officially begun, during which four astronauts will make a ten-day flight around the Moon. The launch is scheduled for the early hours of Wednesday 1 to Thursday 2 April, at 01:24 (Greece time).
Already, the engineers are proceeding with checks and preparation of the systems, as well as the communication links.
The crew conditions of NASA’s Artemis II mission
The crew consists of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, as well as Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. All are located in the Kennedy Space Center’s Neil A. Armstrong Operations and Control Building in Florida.
The crew is engaged in readiness procedures and technical verifications, while remaining in quarantine under strict medical supervision to ensure their fitness for launch. At the same time, he follows a specific sleep and diet plan in order to maintain high energy levels and proper hydration.
Challenge the weather conditions
After successive postponements due to technical issues, NASA is also closely monitoring the weather conditions that will determine the final decision on the launch. According to the forecasts, the probability of favorable weather for the scheduled time reaches 80%.
The Artemis II mission, with the Orion spacecraft to be launched on the Space Launch System rocket, is a key step in returning humans to the Moon, as it will test in practice whether Orion and its systems can safely carry a crew to lunar orbit.
