Security Council postponed vote on resolution on use of force in the strait, blocked by the Iranian regime
Iran’s Foreign Minister, warned this Friday (April 3, 2026) the Security Council of against any “provocative action” in relation to .
“Any provocative action by the aggressors and their supporters, including in the UN Security Council, in relation to the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, will do nothing more than complicate the situation”said the minister in a statement.
The Security Council would vote this Friday (3.Apr) on a resolution presented by Bahrain to send a force that would guarantee the safety of navigation in the region, but the analysis . There is no new date scheduled.
The proposal seeks to allow countries to act individually or in voluntary naval coalitions to ensure the safe passage of vessels.
The text authorizes the use of “all defensive means necessary and proportionate to the circumstances” in the strait and adjacent waters, with the aim of preventing attempts to block or interfere with international navigation for at least 6 months.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s main maritime routes, through which around 20% of the oil and liquefied natural gas traded globally passes.
The almost total blockade imposed by Iran, in response to bombings carried out by the United States and Israel in recent weeks, has put pressure on energy prices and affected supply chains.
