At least one dead and 47 injured, including three minors. This was the result of an incident that occurred on Friday (3) at the Alejandro Villanueva stadium, in Lima, Peru, during a party for Alianza Lima fans on the eve of the game against Universitario, a Peruvian football classic.
The Minister of Health, Juan Carlos Velasco, confirmed the victims to the press, without detailing the causes of the tragedy. Of the injured, 39 are admitted to hospitals in the capital, three of them in critical condition.
At first, the incident was attributed to the collapse of part of the stadium, but the club and firefighters denied this version. Alianza Lima lamented the fan’s death, but stated that it “was not caused by falling walls or structural failures”.
Firefighter Brigadier Marcos Pajuelo said that “the structure in the south stand is apparently in good condition.”
The classic against Universitario was maintained and will be played this Saturday (4), at 8 pm (local time), at the Monumental Stadium, confirmed the Peruvian league.
