The mayor of , João Henrique Caldas, known as JHC, decided that he will resign his mandate to run for the Government of Alagoas or a seat in . The announcement will be made on Saturday night (4) at the delivery of the Renasce Salgadinho Project, one of the biggest works of his mandate.

JHC has not yet defined which position he will run for and remains silent regarding these movements. He left the , of which he was president, and joined the , taking his mother, senator dr. Eudócia, First Lady Marina Cândia, councilors and other political allies.

The agreement was made with the help of Teotônio Vilela Filho (PSDB), former governor and former senator of Alagoas, who intermediated the negotiations with the (PSDB).

If he decides for the Government of Alagoas, JHC will have as his opponent the former Minister of Transport (). If you decide to go to the Senate, .

The city hall will be in charge of vice-mayor Rodrigo Cunha (Podemos). Then a senator, Cunha gave up his seat on the federal bench to run as vice-president in 2024. The vacancy went to Dr. Eudócia (PSDB), mother of JHC.

Leader of JHC in the City Council, Kelmann Vieira (MDB) said in a post on social media that the mayor was “practically thrown out of the PL by unreasonable and authoritarian impositions, orchestrated by “, in which there would be no possibility of candidacy from Senator Dr. Eudócia, by Davi Davino Filho (Republicans) or Marina Cândia, wife of JHC.

For months, Kelmann argued that the mayor would in fact be a candidate for the Government of Alagoas. He also said that JHC had stated that he voted for Bolsonaro and that, in no way, with President Lula (PT) and with the involvement of the senator’s and Arthur Lira’s groups, for the (Superior Court of Justice).

Federal deputy Alfredo Gaspar, who is responsible for reporting on Congress’s CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) on (National Institute of Social Security), assumed the presidency of the party on the 25th, the date on which he also joined, leaving the party.

Gaspar was questioned by Sheet whether he would maintain his plan to run for the Senate, but he did not respond. There is a possibility that he will be the party’s candidate for government, as the PL intends to support Lira’s candidacy for the Senate.

JHC also did not participate in the pre-candidacy event for the former president of the Chamber for the Senate, which would indicate a rift between the two. Lira put it mildly, saying that she supported JHC’s candidacy.

On the Calheiros side, the situation seems defined: a double act between father and son, in the search for Renan’s re-election to the Senate and Renan Filho’s return to the Government of Alagoas, serving as a platform for Lula.
