Candidates who were interested in participating in the 2026 elections had until April 4th to resign from their positions or change parties. THE Superior Electoral Court (TSE) requires that political movements be made at least 6 months before the electionswith the aim of encouraging the use of the structure and position to obtain advantages over other candidates. The rule, however, does not apply to re-election cases.
For this year’s elections, the change of party moved behind the scenes, with names such as Simone Tebet (PSB), Rodrigo Pacheco (PSB) and Ronaldo Caiado (PSD) highlighted. However, in addition to them, more than 100 candidates switched parties.
The elections are scheduled to take place on October 4th, First Round, and October 25th, Second Round.

Simone Tebet

Rodrigo Pacheco
