JHC confirms departure from Maceió City Hall

PSDB politician is tipped to run for government of Alagoas or a seat in the Senate

The mayor of Maceió, João Henrique Caldas, known as (PSDB), confirmed this Saturday (April 4, 2026) his departure from office. The city’s vice-mayor, Rodrigo Cunha, will be the new head of the capital of Alagoas from Sunday (April 5, 2026).

It is not yet known what the political future of JHC will be. Initially, he is tipped to run for the Senate or the government of Alagoas.

Survey of Paraná Pesquisas in December 2025 it showed that JHC was leading the dispute for the government of Alagoas. At the time, he had 47.6% of voting intentions, against 40.9% of (MDB).

JHC mayor of Maceió in 2024 in the 1st round, with 83.25% of valid votes. 2nd place was (MDB), which received 12.74% of the valid votes.
