Trump abandons US democratic leadership, says Anne Applebaum

The current Donald Trump administration has abandoned the American establishment’s vision of placing democracy – even if under hypocrisy – at the center of United States national identity and foreign policy.

The analysis is from journalist and historian Anne Applebaumduring an interview with WW Especial which will air this Sunday (5), at 10pm (Brasília time).

According to Applebaum, the current American National Security Strategy was written by people who “don’t want to be part of this war of ideas” and do not feel appreciation for Washington’s historical allies in Europe.

The historian explains that Trump and his close circle see the United States more as a hemispheric power with interests mainly concentrated in Latin America and internal security.

“They’re not very interested in being involved in these big discussions abroad,” he said.
