Are large language models a dead end – and world models the solution?


Not a week goes by without billions of dollars in new investments in AI data centers being reported. Last week, the social media company Meta announced that it wanted to invest ten billion dollars, more than six times as much as originally planned, in its AI data center in El Paso, Texas. The hope of Meta, OpenAI, Amazon and Google when they spend such enormous sums: larger models, more data, more computing power – and at some point a so-called artificial general intelligence will emerge.
