It remains to be seen whether the current high fuel prices will encourage more people to switch from cars to e-bikes, muscle-powered bicycles or even cargo bikes. Currently, most people use battery-powered bikes as sports equipment. E-bikes are still popular. Their market share is 57 percent, and for e-bikes for adults it is even higher at 69 percent. According to Arge Fahrrad, the representative of domestic manufacturers, Austria has raced ahead of neighboring countries such as Germany and Switzerland: in Germany the share of e-bikes in 2025 was 53 percent, in Switzerland it was just 41 percent.
