We have new cases of monkeypox (mpox) in Slovakia. Five of them were confirmed by the Bratislava University Hospital, three of them are epidemiologically related. The portal brought the information with reference to the Office of Public Health. The spokeswoman added that anti-epidemic measures were ensured.
Mpox is an infectious disease that is transmitted through close contact, including sexual intercourse. Symptoms of mpox include rashes, fever, chills, swollen lymph nodes, exhaustion, muscle, back, and headache pain, as well as respiratory symptoms.
The disease, formerly known as monkeypox, has been endemic in West and Central Africa for more than 50 years. Its wider expansion took place in 2022, when it reached Europe, the United States and other parts of the world. Deaths from mpox are rare in countries with advanced health systems.
