The accident caused significant disruption to railway traffic in the region
A TGV driver died this Tuesday morning after the collision between the train and a heavy vehicle at a level crossing between Béthune and Lens, in the Pas-de-Calais department, in France. According to Le Figaro, the accident occurred around 7 am and also caused 27 injuries.
There were around 350 passengers on board the train. It is not known whether the driver of the heavy vehicle is among the injured.
According to local authorities and the railway operator, the impact caused significant disruption to railway traffic in the region.
The French Transport Minister, Philippe Tabarot, announced that he would travel to the site, accompanied by the president of the SNCF, Jean Castex.
