Government accelerates rule for sharing poles between energy and telecom

The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira (PSD), defended this Tuesday, 7th, the advancement of the National Pole Sharing Policy, in conjunction with the telecommunications sector and regulatory bodies, as a way of “unlocking the regulatory agenda and increasing efficiency in the use of infrastructure”.

In a meeting with the Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, Silveira stated that integrated action between the energy and telecommunications sectors will speed up the definition of rules on the shared use of distribution poles.

“Sharing poles is a strategic agenda for the country, which requires coordination between energy and telecommunications. We are working together to advance with legal security, organization of the sector and direct benefits for the population”, he stated in a statement.

The regulation of pole sharing is discussed between the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), amid disagreements over technical and economic criteria. The lack of a consolidated standard has been highlighted by sector agents as an obstacle to the expansion and organization of infrastructure. One point of divergence involves the amount charged for the use of the poles.

The minister expressed support for the consolidation of regulations that bring greater organization to the use of infrastructure and legal security to the process. The expectation is that a joint resolution will be published after Anatel’s final assessment.
