Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it was preparing a “heavy response” after Israeli attacks on Beirut, Lebanon, raising regional tension just hours after the announcement of a ceasefire.
In a statement, IRGC commander Seyed Majid Mousavi declared that “an attack against Hezbollah is an attack against Iran” and that the Persian paramilitary group is “preparing for a heavy-handed response to the regime’s brutal crimes.”
The IRGC also warned that if aggression against Lebanon does not cease immediately, “we will give a response that will make the aggressors in the region regret it.” The text accuses Israel of violating the ceasefire and carrying out a “savage massacre” in Beirut, in addition to issuing a direct warning to the United States, which it calls Israel’s “partner”.
Hamas also condemned Israel’s offensive against Beirut after the truce pact, classifying it as a “terrorist attack” and “brutal bombing” against densely populated areas, with hundreds of victims, including dead and injured. In a statement sent via Telegram on Wednesday afternoon, the group accused Israel of seeking to restore its deterrence capacity through “massacres” and stated that the actions demonstrate contempt for international law.
On the Israeli side, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed attacks in the Lebanese capital, claiming to have hit a Hezbollah commander in Beirut.
Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said the country would continue operations. “We will not compromise the security of the residents of northern Israel. We will continue to attack with determination”, he pointed out.
