The dispute between Caprichoso and Garantido begins this Friday (26) in the interior of Amazonas. During the three nights of the festival, 21 items will be presented, individual and collective.
A CNN Brazil listed all the items present in the dispute in one of the main cultural events in Brazil, considered Intangible Cultural Heritage by Iphan (Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage).
How is the dispute and what are the items
The confrontation between the bois-bumbás Caprichoso and Garantido takes place inside the Bumbódromo arena, over three nights. The bulls have a minimum time of two hours and a maximum of two hours and 30 minutes per performance, each night.
All items are divided into three blocks — A, B and C, according to the show regulations.
The blocks are judged by a group of three jurors per sector, specialized in the block’s subject.
Item 1 – Presenter

Responsible for guiding the theme of the night. He is a host, master of ceremonies, he is the one who leads the show and presents all the other items in the arena.
Item 2 – Toadas Lifter

He is responsible for singing and interpreting the festival’s tunes during the performance at the bumbodromo.
Item 3 – Marujada and Batucada
It is the sector that gives rhythm to the bumbás. Marujada for Caprichoso and Batucada for Garantido. There are groups of people, with their instruments, who provide the rhythmic support for the presentations.
Item 4 – Indigenous Ritual
The staging or recreation of indigenous rituals. It can be with allegories and choreography, all based on the folkloric context.

She is responsible for carrying the boi-bumbá banner during shows in the arena, representing the boi-bumbá foundation.
Item 6 – Amo do Boi

He is the speaker of the ox. Responsible for singing verses praising the ox, its fans and also provoking the opponent. He represents the owner of the farm, owner of the ox and father of the farm’s little lady.

Daughter of the farm owner, she is angelic in beauty. It needs to have lightness, grace, ease, simplicity and joy.
Item 8 – Queen of Folklore

It represents the traditions, legends, stories and customs of the Amazon region.
Item 9 – Threats

Cunhã-poranga is the “pretty girl” of the village. The guardian of her people. Expresses strength through beauty. She is the native warrior, incorporating all the ancestry of indigenous peoples. It shows the struggle and power of women.
Item 10 – Boi Bumbá: evolution (Tripa do Boi)

Symbol of the popular demonstration, reason and reason for the festival. The ox tripe is responsible for the choreography and movements of the figure of a real ox during the performance in the bumbódromo.
Item 11 – Toada (Lyrics and music)
It is the melody that accompanies the performances of the bois-bumbás, and is a central element of the competition. They are narrations of folk and indigenous tales.

He is a fundamental figure who represents, in the show, the spiritual and religious leader of indigenous peoples. He is the healer, shaman, priest, point of balance for the tribes. In the auto do boi, he is the one who resurrects the farm’s favorite ox.
Item 13 – Indigenous Peoples
It is indigenous representation through choreography, clothing, music and rituals that recreate ethnic traditions from the Amazon region. Compete, in the arena, for the best performance of the dance body representing indigenous people.
Item 14 – Tuxauas
The leadership of a village is represented in this item which, due to the dispute, is the chief of the tribe, representing the Amazonian indigenous imaginary.
