The president (PT) appointed agricultural engineer Loroana Santana to the presidency of Anater (National Agency for Technical Assistance and Rural Extension), an agency linked to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture. Loroana is the 1st woman to hold the position.
The appointment, signed by Lula and minister Fernanda Machiaveli, was published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Thursday (April 9, 2026). Here is it (PDF – 83 kB). Fernanda is also the first woman to head the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming.

Loroana has a master’s degree in Socio-Spatial and Regional Development from UFMA (Federal University of Maranhão). He was president of Agerp (State Agency for Agricultural Research and Rural Extension of Maranhão), deputy secretary of the State Secretariat for Human Rights and Popular Participation of the Government of Maranhão, and vice-president of the Brazilian Association of State Entities for Technical Assistance and Rural Extension for the Northeast Region.
