NATO chief says alliance is willing to participate in mission in Hormuz

NATO, the Western military alliance, would be willing to participate in a possible mission in the Strait of Hormuz, if it has the conditions to do so, said the head of the bloc, Mark Rutte, this Thursday (9).

Rutte added that the alliance’s members were doing everything that US President Donald Trump requested to strengthen the bloc, even if some were “a little slow” initially amid the war with Iran.

“When it came time to provide the logistical and other support the United States needed in Iran, some allies were a little slow, to say the least,” the secretary general commented during a speech in Washington.

“To be fair, they were also a little surprised. To maintain the element of surprise in the initial attacks, President Trump chose not to inform his allies in advance,” he pondered.

“But what I see, when I look at Europe today, is that. Almost without exception, the allies are doing everything the United States asks. They have listened and are responding to President Trump’s requests,” he added.

Rutte’s comments came a day after one at the White House.

He has informed some countries that Trump wants concrete commitments in the coming days to help secure , diplomats told Reuters.
