The former minister of Michel Temer (MDB) and former governor of Rio de Janeiro declared that “We are returning to an environment of polarization, intolerance and intransigence, the harbinger of an undemocratic situation.”
The statement was made to journalists this Wednesday (April 8, 2026), during the launch of his book “Politics as destiny – Paths and detours of redemocratization” in Brasilia. The event, held at Casa ParlaMento, brought together Centrão politicians, such as former senator (MDB-RR) and the former minister (MDB-MS).
“There is no possibility of a healthy coexistence in an environment of intolerance that we are beginning to see thriving again in Brazil”said the former minister.

The book brings together reports on disputes and articulations that shaped Brazilian politics in recent decades. The work, with more than 1,000 pages, was written in dialogue format, based on more than 100 hours of interviews conducted by sociologist Aspásia Camargo and philosopher Denis Rosenfield.
