The president of the (Superior Electoral Court), minister, decided to bring forward her departure from office, which would only be on July 3rd.
The symbolic election to choose the new president of the court will take place on the 14th, with an inauguration ceremony scheduled for May.
When announcing the decision, at the TSE session this Thursday (9), Cármen stated that, if he fulfilled his entire mandate, Kassio would have little time to organize the October general elections — around one hundred days.
“I decided that, instead of leaving it until the last day, the succession of this court begins earlier, with the procedures for electing new leaders and the transition process,” said the minister.
The judge stated that the measure seeks to “guarantee balance and tranquility in the handover of duties”. In the Kassio administration, minister André Mendonça takes over as deputy of the TSE.
“I always thought that the change of ownership at the TSE, when it occurs very closely [à eleição] compromises administrative tranquility. It is necessary to act without haste and without haste”, she said.
Cármen also used as justification for leaving the TSE “the enormous work” she has to carry out as minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court).
With the beginning of the transition, information and data will be shared with Kassio for the logistical planning of the elections with the TREs (Regional Electoral Courts) in the States and the Federal District.
As shown by the Sheet, Kassio will lead the 2026 elections in a court occupied by a group of ministers with whom he has a good relationship and who can reinforce his powers during his term.
The magistrate has stated internally that he wants his presidency to involve political disputes and that his administration will act to de-escalate the political tension in the country.
In this aspect, the style should be the opposite of that of Alexandre de Moraes in the 2022 elections. Kassio, however, also states that his intention is for the TSE to maintain vigilance over possible excesses in the electoral campaign.
