Dosimetry PL: Alcolumbre schedules veto session – 04/09/2026 – Politics

After a new offensive by the opposition, the president of , (-AP), decided to schedule a session to analyze the president’s (PT) veto of the bill that reduces the sentences of those convicted on January 8, including (PL).

The so-called Dosimetry PL, as it became known, was approved last year in the Chamber and the Senate, with support from the PL and opposition from the PT, but.

Since then, Bolsonaro supporters have been putting pressure on Alcolumbre to schedule the Congress session, in which congressmen decide whether to maintain or overturn presidential vetoes. The opposition’s expectation is that the veto will be overturned, as the project received a large majority of votes in both the Chamber and the Senate.

This Wednesday (8), the deputy (PL-MG) met with Alcolumbre and said that he asked him to guide the Dosimetry PL “almost like someone begging”. On the same day, the president of the Senate indicated that he would take the vote soon.

Nikolas told Sheeton this farm, who has nothing but thanks to Alcolumbre. “The mission is not completed, we have to overturn the veto, which is up to Congress. But the penultimate step was taken to free these people. I’m glad he listened to me,” he said.

At the same time as he responded to a request from the opposition this Thursday (9), Alcolumbre also gave a nod to the government by unlocking the processing of Jorge Messias’ nomination to the (Supreme Federal Court). The hearing was scheduled for April 29th.

The Dosimetry PL benefits Bolsonaro, sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for participating in the coup plot. Last month, the former president was transferred to house arrest after being hospitalized with bronchopneumonia caused by his frequent bouts of hiccups.

For Lula’s veto to be overturned, the vote of 257 of the 513 deputies and also of 41 of the 81 senators is necessary — if this majority is not reached in any of the Houses, the veto is maintained. In the Chamber, there were 148 opponents. Already in the Senate, the project and 25 opposed.

The government leader in Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), states that it is not impossible to reverse seven votes in the Senate.

The reduction of sentences was discussed in Congress for months, but only moved forward after Bolsonaro’s supporters agreed to vote for it instead of a total amnesty.

If it comes into force, the project could, in theory, reduce the time that Bolsonaro will spend in the closed regime of serving his sentence from the current 6 to 8 years to something between and , depending on the interpretation.

The time Bolsonaro dedicates to work or study, activities that can be used to reduce the period in prison, will also influence the reduction of sentences.

The part of the project that most benefits Bolsonaro is the one that allows for a kind of unification of the crimes of coup d’état and violent abolition of the democratic rule of law.

The former president was sentenced to 8 years and 2 months for the coup and 6 years and 6 months for the abolition of the democratic state. Under current rules, the two penalties are combined. The project allows only the largest to be considered, with an increase of one sixth to half, depending on the case.

Furthermore, the project allows those convicted of the 8th of January to have regime progression after one-sixth of the sentence served. Under current rules, progression comes after a quarter of the sentence served.
