“This is a decisive moment”, says Pakistani PM about US and Iran

As talks between Iran and the United States, mediated by Pakistan, approach in Islamabad, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation in a televised address this Friday (10)

“This is a decisive moment,” Sharif said. “I ask everyone to pray that these negotiations are successful, that countless lives are saved and that the world sees peace.”

Sharif praised Pakistan’s army chief, , a close ally of US President Donald Trump, and , for “extinguishing the flames of war”.

The prime minister added that tomorrow, “God willing”, leaders from the US and Iran will be present in Pakistan for talks.

“The Pakistani leadership will ensure the success of these negotiations by making every effort,” Sharif said. “It’s all in God’s hands.”

This Friday (10), , boarded a plane heading to the negotiations in Pakistan, saying he was “looking forward” to the talks.

“As the president of the United States has said,” Vance told reporters, “if the Iranians are willing to negotiate in good faith, we will certainly be willing to extend a hand.”
