Another front was opened by Israel and personally by . Israel’s foreign ministry has announced that Spanish representatives will not be allowed access to the US-led center responsible for monitoring the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement on its website, the ministry said the decision to exclude Spain from participating in the Coordination Center for Civil and Military Affairs (CMCC) was made due to “the anti-Israeli obsession of Prime Minister Sanchez’s government and the serious damage it is causing to Israeli (as well as American) interests – including during the war against Iran”. In the announcement, they point out that the US had been informed in advance of this development.
Sanchez has arguably been the most vocal Western critic of Donald Trump’s war on Iran. While most European leaders reacted with subdued enthusiasm to the news of the US-Iran ceasefire, Sanchez said his government “will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they show up afterwards with a bucket”.
In a statement, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Shaar said: “The anti-Israel bias of the Sanchez administration is so blatant that it has lost any ability to act as a constructive agent in the implementation of President Trump’s peace plan and the functioning of the CMCC within that plan.”
Netanyahu’s message
Following the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s announcement of the blockade of Spain, the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, accused Madrid of “hostility” towards his country.
In a message published today, he said: “Israel will not remain silent in the face of those who attack us. Spain defamed our heroes, the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, the soldiers of the most moral army in the world.
Therefore, I ordered the removal of the Spanish representatives from the coordination center at Kiryat Gat, since Spain has repeatedly chosen to stand against Israel.
Those who attack Israel instead of terrorist regimes, whoever they are, will not be our partners for the future of the region. I am not prepared to tolerate this hypocrisy and this hostility. I do not intend to allow any country to wage a diplomatic war against us without immediately paying the price for it.”
Netanyahu asked for another delay in his corruption trial
At the same time, the Israeli prime minister requested another postponement of his corruption trial. Netanyahu is citing the current security situation in the region, the Israeli prime minister’s lawyer said in a court filing on Friday.
Netanyahu’s trial was due to resume on Sunday after Israel lifted a state of emergency imposed over the war with Iran after the ceasefire was announced.
