Faced with the partial result of the parliamentary election in Hungary, European authorities spoke out about the victory of Peter Magyar, from the opposition party. The election, still being counted this Sunday, 12th, is considered the most important in Europe this year. French President Emmanuel Macron said he spoke to Magyar to congratulate him on his victory in Hungary. “France welcomes the victory of democratic participation, the adherence of the Hungarian people to the values of the European Union, as well as Hungary’s European commitment. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson congratulated Magyar on a victory he called “historic.” “I look forward to working closely with you – as Allies and EU Members. This marks a new chapter in Hungary’s history,” he said in a post on X.
The victory of the opposition to Orban was also a reason for congratulations by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. On his social network, he stated that he was looking forward to “collaboration for a strong, safe and, above all, united Europe”.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr also congratulated Magyar and his party on their victory. “I look forward to close and constructive cooperation in the pursuit of peace and stability, democracy and the rule of law on our continent,” he said.
The polls have not yet been 100% counted, but the partial result indicates the defeat of Órban, who has already spoken in Budapest admitting the opposition’s victory.
