The cellar found in the house of the person accused of the crime of Esther López in Traspinedo opens a new avenue for investigators | Spain

Investigators have a new clue to investigate to try to solve the (Valladolid) case in 2022: a hideout in a hidden area of the home of the only person accused of the crime, . The man’s family sold the property a few months ago, a chalet that had been uninhabited for many months in an urbanization in the municipality, and it was when the new owner was carrying out some works that this space, not located until now, was discovered. Investigation sources affirm that the Central Operational Unit (UCO) has been in Valladolid for several days and report that this Monday the house will be inspected again, which was already searched at the time without any evidence of the existence of the cellar.

The death of the 35-year-old woman from Valladolid occurred after her disappearance on January 12, 2022. The woman was with two friends, one of them Sanz, when she disappeared for three weeks until her body was found on February 5 in a ditch next to a road in the direction of her town. The investigations focused on this man, the last person to see her alive, although he alleged at all times that his friend got out of his car that morning after an argument and that he did not see her again until her body was discovered, with bruises and injuries.

A key to the event is knowing if the body was in the ditch from the beginning without being found, despite several days of searching since it is a frequented road, or if it could have been hidden somewhere before being deposited there. Police sources assure that biological studies would reveal whether the suspect eventually kept the body in that newly found cellar, no matter how much time had passed.

The investigators have worked all this time with the thesis, supported by the trace of the telephone signal of their cell phones and their connections to nearby repeaters, that both were together until dawn and that, after a possible dispute, the accused ran over her with fatal results. The Prosecutor’s Office, supported by the autopsy, maintains that the injuries from the impact caused by the car and the temperatures and substances ingested were not enough to cause her death if the person accompanying her, presumably Óscar Sanz, had treated her or transferred to a hospital.

The judicial process opened to clarify the facts has been prolonged until last December when the judge investigating the case, the third who has gone through it, remains on provisional release and from whom 230,000 euros of bail have been requested and her passport has been taken away. The magistrate of the Court of Instruction 5 of Valladolid, in charge of the investigation, accuses the friend of the deceased of the crime of murder, subsidiarily of homicide, and of crimes of omission of assistance, illegal detention and against moral integrity. The Prosecutor’s Office has demanded a sentence of 18 years in prison for the crime of malicious murder, the same concept as that raised by the two accusations brought in the case, one representing and the other the parents. The suspect’s defense demands the acquittal of his client.
