US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to immediately destroy Iranian ships that violate the announced blockade of Iranian ports by the US. Trump’s statement on social networks is related to the blockade of all Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, which was supposed to begin on Monday at 16:00 CEST.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it on Sunday, saying that only ships that are not sailing to or from Iran will be able to pass through the key Strait of Hormuz. The US President wrote on Monday in his post on the Truth Social network that “Iran’s navy lies at the bottom of the sea, completely destroyed: 158 ships. What we haven’t touched on are a few of their ‘fast attack craft’ as they call them, because we didn’t see them as a serious threat.
The White House chief concluded his post by warning that “if any of these ships come even remotely close to our BLOCKADE they will be immediately DESTROYED using the same neutralization system we use against drug smugglers at sea”. Trump was referring to airstrikes on vessels allegedly carrying narcotics off the coast of Venezuela.
The Iranian military declared on Monday that the planned blockade of ports by the US Navy would be illegal and a crime of piracy. She also warned that if Iranian ports are threatened, none of the others in the surrounding countries of the Persian Gulf will be safe.
