- The United States conditions the deepening of cooperation with Russia on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
- Moscow proposes to start joint projects immediately, without waiting for Ukraine.
- Dmitry Peskov confirmed the continuation of the work of the group for Russian-American cooperation.
According to the Kremlin, the United States continues to insist that deepening cooperation with Russia is only possible if the situation in Ukraine is resolved, while Moscow suggests not waiting and immediately start implementing various joint projects. Russian President Dmitry Peskov’s spokesman said this at a briefing in Moscow on Tuesday. The TASS agency drew attention to it, writes TASR.
According to Peskov, work in the group focused on cooperation between Russia and the USA continues and various issues are being discussed. However, the American side links the future of trade and economic cooperation with the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“We are convinced that there is absolutely no reason to wait for the situation in Ukraine to be resolved,” Peskov declared. According to him, it is in the interest of both countries “to implement mutually beneficial projects, of which there could be many on the agenda”.
Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Moscow officials said relations with Washington were worse than ever. According to Reuters, the situation began to improve when US President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January of last year.
