Motta bankrolls PT victory for TCU and seals alliance with party – 04/15/2026 – Panel

Motta, however, maintained the election, confident in the victory of the PT member, for whom he was the main electoral leader.

In the end, Cunha won with a clear majority of 303 votes, becoming the first PT member elected to the TCU since redemocratization. On two other occasions, politicians linked to the party were defeated: deputies José Pimentel (CE) in 2005 and Paulo Delgado (MG), in 2007.

The victory was celebrated by those around the president of the Chamber, who saw an affirmation of his authority after a troubled first year in office, in which he suffered a lot of criticism from the government and the opposition.

The PT celebrated what it considered to be an “overwhelming victory”. “We were confident, we outlined strategies, we spoke with parliamentarians from various parties and we managed to put an agreement in place with several parties”, says the party leader in the Chamber, Pedro Uczai (SC).

For a PT deputy, Motta believes he has the support of the party for his re-election as president of the Chamber, in 2027.

Cunha also thanked the commitment of the new Minister of Institutional Relations, José Guimarães, and went to thank him personally at a celebration hours after being elected.
