The national president of the PSDB, federal deputy Aécio Neves (MG), invited former governor Ciro Gomes, recently affiliated to the party, to be a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for the party.
On social media, Aécio said that Ciro has a “solid project”. “We believe that he can lead a new path for Brazil, with a liberal, inclusive economy and responsible public management. This is what the PSDB has always defended and what Brazil needs more than ever,” he said.
According to the publication, the former governor said he will evaluate the invitation “with great respect”, taking into account his “responsibilities with Ceará”.
After the agenda at the National Congress this Tuesday (14), Aécio told journalists that, aiming to compete for the Presidency of the Republic.
of Ceará in the October elections, Ciro is today “bigger than the borders of his great state”, according to Aécio. The president of the PSDB mentioned that the party does not believe in the government projects proposed by the polarization between the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ).
Ciro Gomes has already been a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic on four occasions: 1998, 2002, 2018 and 2022. He did not reach the second round on any of the occasions.
In 2022, Ciro had his worst performance, having just over 3% of the votes. He ended up in fourth place, behind Lula, Jair Bolsonaro and Simone Tebet.
