Donald Trump asked Chinese President Xi Jinping in a letter not to supply weapons to Iran, and Xi responded that China was not supplying Tehran, the US president told Fox Business Network in an interview that aired this Wednesday (15).
Trump, in the interview recorded on Tuesday, did not say when the letters were exchanged. Last week, he threatened countries with an immediate 50% tariff if they supplied weapons to Iran.
“I wrote a letter asking him not to do this, and he wrote me a letter saying that, essentially, he’s not doing this,” Trump said on the “Mornings with Maria” program on FBN.
He also said he does not expect changes in the global oil market due to the war against Iran and changes in Venezuela to affect the dynamics of his planned meeting with Xi next month. “He’s someone who needs oil. We don’t,” Trump said.
